Post Season Opportunities - Spring/Summer 2018

There are three components to our off-season program.

1.  MYWA

2.  Roughneck Wrestling Club

3.  Camps

MYWA is the Michigan Youth Wrestling Club.  Usually, there are 2 or 3 tournaments in the MYWA system that have High School divisions for those wrestlers who are eliminated at the District or Regional tournaments.  This year, MYWA is not offering them.  Instead, the first MYWA event is the MYWA Regional tournament at Dakota HS on March 11th.  If you place top 4 (or 5) in your weight class, you will advance to the MYWA State Tourney in Battle Creek on March 24-25.  We will have Open Room "practices" to prepare for these competitions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 630-8pm.

Roughneck Wrestling Club is operated out of the facility at 42840 Merrill Road, Sterling Heights, MI  48314 by Coach Mike Conflitti.  Coach Conflitti will have practices on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8pm..  The Spring practice session runs from March 14-May 28.  The Spring Session culminates with a trip to Virginia Beach on Memorial Day Weekend to participate in the Flo National Duals.  The Summer Session runs from June 4-August 29.  The Summer Session includes a variety of tournaments, some Freestyle, some Greco and some Folkstyle.  The Summer Session includes the Blue Water National Duals in Port Huron in July.  Coach Conflitti is an excellent clinician and coach.  You will improve dramatically from committing to one or more of his sessions.

Camps.  We will participate in three camps this year.  The first of these is the Boudro Wrestling Camp in St. Ignace on June 17-20.  The cost is $295.  The second camp is the Jordan Team Camp, which will take place in Urbana, OH from June 24-28, 2018.  The cost is $285.  We will also attend the Central Michigan University Team Camp at Mt. Pleasant from July 8-11.  The cost for CMU is $260.  All of these camps are team camps where you can get 10-20 varsity matches.

Off Season Practice Tips

Be sure to stretch well before beginning wrestling or drilling.

Do at least 10 singles, 10 doubles and 10 of your favorite takedown before any live wrestling.

Spend time working on technique for moves you have trouble with.

Close out with 2 six minute matches.

If possible, find different partners.

Keep your intensity level up.  "Practice how you want to play, because you will play like you practice!"
